Who We Are
Legacy Dental Assisting is a new dental assisting education institution founded by Dr. Sarah Mitchell, a dental professional with over 14 years of hands-on experience in the field. After working as a dental assistant, lead assistant, and mentor, Dr. Mitchell recognized the critical shortage of qualified dental assistants in Northwest Indiana. Her vision was to create a comprehensive training program that would prepare students for immediate success in this growing healthcare field.
Through years of careful planning and industry research, Dr. Mitchell developed relationships with over 50 dental practices throughout the region to ensure our graduates have access to externship opportunities and job placement. Our curriculum is built on real-world experience and industry best practices, incorporating the latest dental technologies and techniques. What does a dental assistant do?
Dental assistants support dentists by preparing patients, sterilizing instruments, taking X-rays, and assisting during procedures. They also manage patient records, schedule appointments, and provide patient education. It's a rewarding healthcare career with excellent growth potential.
How long is the dental assisting program?
Our comprehensive program is 12 weeks long, designed to get you job-ready quickly. We offer full-time day classes. Each program includes hands-on training and a clinical externship.
What are the admission requirements?
You need a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, and pass a basic skills assessment. No prior healthcare experience is required! We also require a background check and up-to-date immunizations before starting clinical rotations.
How much does the program cost?
Tuition varies by program track, but we offer flexible payment plans and financial aid options. Many students qualify for federal financial aid, and we partner with several scholarship programs. Contact our admissions team for a personalized financial plan.
Will I be certified after graduation?
Yes! Our program prepares you for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification exam. We have a 95% pass rate on certification exams, and our career services team helps you navigate the certification process.
What kind of salary can I expect?
Entry-level dental assistants in our region typically earn $38,000-$47,000 annually, with experienced assistants earning $40,000-$48,000. Many of our graduates see salary increases within their first year as they gain specialized skills.
Do you provide hands-on training?
Absolutely! Our state-of-the-art clinical lab features the same equipment you'll use in dental offices. You'll practice on dental manikins, take real X-rays, and complete a supervised externship in an actual dental practice before graduating.
